RADAR AT CANCÚN TO BE REPLACED BY SENEAM

The Mexican air traffic control authority, SENEAM, has informed Cancún International Airport and the airlines that operate there that the radar system currently in use is to be replaced. Consequently, as of the 22nd of May and until the 11th of June of this year, only 20 operations, and a maximum of 12 landings, can be carried out per hour.

SENEAM, a government body that reports to the Ministry of Communications and Transport, is responsible for managing the country’s air traffic control services, as well as related air navigation radio aids, telecommunications, weather forecasting and aeronautical information.

In connection with the replacement of the radar, SENEAM requested the airport to implement the necessary measures to reduce operating authorizations to a maximum of 20 per hour under IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) protocol.

Cancún International Airport wishes to inform the airport community as a whole of this notification received from SENEAM, as well as all government bodies and agencies, organizations, tourism companies and other stakeholders, as the possible disruption of some operations programmed for the coming weeks is of interest to all of them.

The airport management will cooperate in every way with SENEAM and the airlines to reduce any possible impact on air operations as much as possible. All of the systems used to provide visual aids to air traffic in Cancún International Airport are in perfect working order.
