REPAIRS TO TERMINAL 1

Cancún International Airport (ASUR) has begun repair works in Terminal 1, following the conclusion of the necessary studies to insure that the building does not represent a security risk for employees and passengers.

Terminal 1 will be safely restored, in order for the company to take full advantage of its airport capacity and to offer a better service to all passengers arriving by air at this tourist destination. The Terminal is expected to restart operations in December 2006, and as previously it will have 34 check-in counters, 5 boarding gates and 7 aircraft parking stands.

In addition to the repairs being carried out in Terminal 1, several projects are under way to increase the capacity of Terminal 2. Among these are a new hall with 20 check-in counters, the remodeling of the international arrivals area (including the extension of bus bays, new public services and a restaurant), the use of new technologies to install wireless passenger check-in counters, the extension of security filters, new boarding gates and the expansion of the immigration facility, including a new lounge for transit passengers.

Once Terminal 1 is repaired and the extension of Terminal 2 is complete, the total capacity of the airport will be greater than it was before Hurricane Wilma.
